It offers an opportunity for students to interact with experts
SHIMOGA: For the first time, The Hindu Education Plus career guidance sessions will be held in Shimoga on May 18.

Being held in Karnataka for the seventh consecutive year, these sessions are an off-page extension of the weekly supplement of The Hindu.

The career guidance sessions will guide students through the admission process, offer career guidance and provide an opportunity to interact with experts from a plethora of fields.

Titled “Charting Your Course”, the event is being held at Chandana Hall at the Acharya Tulsi National College of Commerce (ATNCC) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Programme

The key-note address on “Choosing the right career” will be delivered by Director of the Centre for Human Resource Development of the National Education Society (NES) N. Diwakar Rao.

He will also release a 124-page career handbook titled Charting Your Course.

The second session is devoted to demystifying the ensuing professional college admission process. Karnataka Examinations Authority official Varikal Math and Associate Professor of the Department of Pathology, M.S. Ramaiah Medical College — who will represent COMED-K — will make brief presentations.

This will be followed by an hour-long interactive session. A presentation on career options by Ameen Mudassar, founder of Cigma Foundation (our knowledge partner), will conclude the session.

Interactive session
In the third session, a purely interactive one, a panel of experts will take queries on a variety of topics, ranging from foreign education to soft skills and funding education.
Our panellists for this session are principal of Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering Srinivas Rao Kunte and head of the Civil Engineering Department of the Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering A.V. Pradeepkumar, answering questions on engineering; director of the Manasa Nursing Home K.A. Pai, associate professor of the Radio Diagnosis Department of Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) Uma Pandurangi and Dr. Alva, discussing careers in medicine; Rajendra Chenni of the Department of English at Kuvempu University, speaking on soft skills, and Mr. Mudassar.
Career handbook
In addition, students will take home a free copy of Charting Your Course, a well-researched publication that presents a wide range of expert articles charting trends, providing information and helping students plan the next step after graduation.
This handbook offers guidance on careers ranging from pure mathematics or space engineering to animation and design.
It also carries articles that will help you choose a college, demystify the admission process or even offer a four-step plan to improve soft skills.
Students who have completed or are studying class X, pre-university, or class XII are invited to attend.
As the format for these sessions is an interactive one, we also invite questions from students for the panellists through email.
For queries, email epkarnataka@gmail.com or call 080-22864240.
