The Hindu-EducationPlus will organise a series of guidance-cum-orientation programmes at six centres in Kerala starting May 27 for the benefit of those seeking admission to courses in various professional streams through the Sate government's counselling process after taking the Common Entrance Test, and also in certain other subjects of study. Registration for participation will start soon.

This off-the-page initiative by Kerala's largest-selling English language newspaper is into its seventh year. ‘Courses & Choices – Sessions on the Professional Streams and More', is to be conducted at Kozhikode on May 27; Kochi on May 29 and Thiruvananthapuram on May 30. In Kozhikode it will be at Hotel Calicut Tower, Mavoor Road; in Kochi at A.J. Hall, Kaloor and in Thiruvananthapuram at Tagore Centenary Theatre.

The programmes at these three places will be spread across forenoon and afternoon sessions.

The forenoon session will focus on the dos and don'ts, the strategies relating to the online seat allotment process conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, provide an overview of the key courses and, in general set students, and their parents, thinking on the career and course options before them and ways and means to make the best of what is up for grabs.

Participants will have an opportunity to be briefed on the counselling process and ask questions at an interactive session to the members of a panel of experts chosen by The Hindu.

The afternoon sessions at these centres will focus on courses in areas such as Animation and Gaming, Aviation, Logistics, Hospitality, Finance and Chartered Accountancy. Educational opportunities abroad will be dealt with, too.

The forenoon's programmes at the three other centres – Thiruvalla on June 5, Kannur on June 9 and Manjeri on June 10 -- will be similar to the morning sessions planned at the above centres, focussing on the courses in the professional streams. In Thiruvalla the programme will be held at Mar Thoma Residential School, Muthoor; in Kannur at Hotel Royal Omars and in Manjeri at the Woodbine Restaurant.

A handbook with detailed information on courses will be provided to each participant.

Apart from helping students gain clarity on the different courses on offer, it will outline points to be considered while seeking admission to professional courses.

The State Bank of Travancore is the presenting sponsor and Shadwells the associate sponsor of the events.
