Stalin presents laptops to plus two students - Chennai

Chennai: Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presented laptops worth Rs. 30 lakh to children of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment (HR&CE) department staff at the Secretariat on Saturday.
HR&CE Minister Periyakaruppan had announced during the demand for grants for the department in 2009-10 that the government would give laptops to 100 students, sons and daughters of HR&CE staff, based on merit list and pay 25 per cent fees for first year to temple staff's children pursuing vocational education in government and aided colleges.

Subsequently, the department selected eligible students based on their Plus 2 marks.
On Saturday, Mr. Stalin presented laptops to 90 students and Rs 5,325 to three students towards tuition fee.
Mr. Periyakaruppan was present.

At another function, Mr. Stalin presented appointment orders to 33 persons as junior assistants, based on the seniority list in employment exchange, in Chennai Metrowater.

An official release said, the government was filling up vacancies and creating new posts to ensure that the government's schemes reached even the downtrodden.

In the past four years, 387 persons had been appointed in positions such as assistant engineers, lab technicians, junior assistants, typists, draftsmen and drivers in Metrowater through employment exchange and on compassionate grounds, the release said.

Municipal Administration Principal Secretary Niranjan Mardi and Metrowater Managing Director Shiv Das Meena were present.
