Month-long mathematics programme from today at Mysore

MYSORE: A month-long programme for identifying and nurturing talent in mathematics among graduates and postgraduate students from across the country will commence at the Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Mysore, from Monday.

The programme, “Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme(MTTS)” is an initiative of the National Board of Higher Mathematics (Union Ministry of Atomic Energy) and aims to expose young minds to the joy of learning mathematics.
 
‘Interactive'

N.N. Prahallada, Reader, RIE, said, in a release, that the objective of the MTTS was to teach mathematics in an interactive manner; teachers will ask questions and try to develop theories using examples based on students' answers.

The programme also aims to promote independent thinking and provide a platform for talented students to interact with their peers and experts.

As many as 200 students from all over the country have been selected for this programme and they will be trained at three levels i.e., level O, Level I and Level II by professors drawn from reputed institutions and universities across the country. The programme will conclude on June 12.

K. Dorasami, Principal, RIE, will inaugurate the programme, S. Kumaresan, Director MTTS and mathematics scholar University of Hyderabad, will preside over the inaugural session. B.S. Upadhyaya, Professor of Mathematics and Head of the Department of Extension Education, RIEM, is the chief coordinator of the MTTS programme, said Dr. Prahallada.
